Email Server Configuration ? General

How is Email Used?

The Message Center enables you to send messages to various people about topics that pertain to them. These messages can be customized to incorporate a specified target audience by using a filter. For example, you could send your message to all 7th grade biology students. There is also an area that enables you to view who has hidden or read any sent messages.

Email is also used to create Notifications about Attendance, Demographics, Discipline, Family Access, Fee Management, Food Service, Gradebook, Grading, New Student Enrollment, Online Form, and Scheduling. You set up Scheduled Tasks for notifications to schedule exactly when the notices will be sent.

How is Email Sent?

The Qmlativ Business, Student, School, and Municipality Management Suites are identical in the way email is configured and processed. The email server can be any 3rd Party email system that has a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) relay setup to allow Qmlativ to relay emails. The Qmlativ Workflow Service acts as an SMTP Email client by connecting to the SMTP server and transferring the emails. The SMTP server is then responsible for delivering the emails to the appropriate destinations. The Qmlativ Workflow Service sends outbound emails and never receives inbound emails.

Secure Cloud Hosted Customers Email Setup

Cloud Hosted Customer can provide a 3rd Party SMTP Server, or preferably, ISCorp can provide the SMTP server for sending emails for your Secure Cloud Hosted (SCC) Qmlativ Suite(s). Jump to: Cloud Hosted Setup using the ISCorp SMTP Server Jump to: Cloud Hosted Setup using a 3rd Party SMTP Server

On-Premises Hosted Customers Email Setup

On-Premises Hosted Customer must provide a 3rd Party SMTP Server for sending emails for your Secure Cloud Hosted (SCC) Qmlativ Suite(s). Jump to: On Premises Hosted Customers Email Setup

Cloud Hosted Setup using the ISCorp SMTP Server

Step 1 ? ISCorp SMTP Relay - Create or Modify your SPF Record

To ensure emails delivered by the ISCorp email server are not rejected or classified as Junk Mail / SPAM your district must create or modify your Sender Policy Framework (SPF) Domain Name System (DNS) record. SPF records are typically created and maintained by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

If you are not familiar with this step, please jump to: What is an SPF Record and why is it required?

The IP addresses that must be added to your SPF record are: ? ISCorp Email source address - Mequon, WI - 66.195.143.26 ? ISCorp Email source address - Dallas, TX - 8.12.72.20

Note: Adding both ISCorp Email source addresses is recommended for Disaster Recovery purposes.

Step 2 ? ISCorp SMTP Relay - Create a support request

Once your SPF record is created submit a support request to Skyward or ISCorp to complete the Qmlativ email setup. ISCorp Support will verify the SPF record, configure your Qmlativ Email settings, and verify it works by sending a test email message.

Cloud Hosted Setup using a 3rd Party SMTP Server

Step 1 ? 3rd Party SMTP Server Setup

Most 3rd Party SMTP Servers can either use SMTP Authentication or use Anonymous connections when no Authentication credentials are provided. Anonymous connections are typically secured by using IP Address restrictions.

The following information will need to be supplied to ISCorp in Step 2. ? Sending Email Address: Enter the preferred district Email From address. ? Sending Email Alias: A friendly name for the Email From address. ? SMTP Username: (Optional) If the Email server needs SMTP authentication, the username for the Email From address will be entered. If left blank, skyward will attempt to make an anonymous SMTP connection to email server. ? SMTP Password: (Optional) If the Email server needs SMTP authentication, the password for the Email From address will be entered. If left blank, skyward will attempt to make an anonymous SMTP connection to email server. ? SMTP Server: The Email Server host name or ip address that Qmlativ will use to forward/relay the emails generated by Qmlativ application. The Email Server can be any third-party email system that has a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) relay setup to allow Qmlativ to relay emails. ? SMTP Port: The Email Server Port used to connect to the SMTP server. The default SMTP port is 25 ? EnableSSL: Enables Qmlativ as an SSL/TLS SMTP Client.

You must ensure your SMTP Server is accessible by the ISCorp Servers. The IP Restriction / Firewall Requirements are TCP Port 25 (SMTP) for ISCorp Email source addresses 66.195.143.26 (Mequon, WI) and 8.12.72.20 (Dallas, TX).

Step 2 ?Create a support request

Submit a support request to Skyward or ISCorp with your SMTP Server information. ISCorp Support will configure your Qmlativ Email settings and verify it is working by sending a test email message from Qmlativ.
